Reformer Pilates

At Hygeia Pilates and Wellness we offer a personal 1:1 or 2:1 Reformer session that focuses on your needs, whether that is injury rehabilitation or whole body strengthening. The Reformer utilises the basic Pilates Principles whilst using the resistance of the springs and the support from the carriage. Reformer Pilates is low impact; however I can guarantee you will feel the muscles worked the next day.

What is Reformer Pilates?

The Reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment. The Reformer was designed by Joseph Pilates himself in the 1920s. Many people look at the Reformer and feel a little intimidated by this piece of equipment however as I like to say 'it is not as scary as it looks' and after a few sessions in you soon realise it is the most versatile and effective piece of exercise equipment. It is extremely addictive (you have been warned).

Reformer Pilates is similar yet very different to mat based Pilates. Reformer Pilates is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises via the use of the weighted springs which form part of the machine. Reformer Pilates is suitable for everyone.

What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates strengthens the whole body. The Reformer offers all the benefits of Pilates including overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and utilises the weighted springs for resistance.
